Iron Man (2008)

Many of my theories on Iron Man were confirmed after I watched this DVD. For instance, Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Tony Stark based on his own personal successes and difficulties. The concept of a rich industrialist character putting war profits towards peaceful endeavors was based on real life Howard Hughes. And this comic book hero was originally a product of the cold war. This stuff is pretty easy to figure out even if you have never read any of the original Iron Man comics.

When it comes to putting comic heros on celluloid, Hollywood's track record has been pretty unimpressive. I never liked the recent Spiderman or Hulk series. And the original Batmans sucked. (Even with Jack playing the Joker.) Much of this has changed with the recent Batman film which I saw in the theatre, and Iron Man.

If you have not rented Iron Man, I recommend it. It has no explicit violence or sex, but remained very entertaining from beginning to end. Even Paltrow's portrayal of Penny Potts was pragmatic. (Yes, try saying that three times fast!!) But she remains one of least dynamic actresses of her generation.

Watched it - pleasantly surprised. The only boring part was the 'battle' between Iron Man and Iron Monger.

Downey Jr. seems to have figured out mainstream success. Better than jail!

My sister said it's awesome, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Glad to hear you liked it and that the violence was kept to a minimum.

Kitty, you have to let me know what you think.

Pru, Downey is my favorite American actor.

Bill, I agree.

LA, it felt like a traditional comic book. (It left much to the imagination.)

Diane, I think you would like it.

Amber, I am still here, although a little tired from this harsh, relentless winter.
