For instance, Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Tony Stark based on his own personal successes and difficulties. The concept of a rich industrialist character putting war profits towards peaceful endeavors was based on real life Howard Hughes. And this comic book hero was originally a product of the cold war. This stuff is pretty easy to figure out even if you have never read any of the original Iron Man comics.<BR/><BR/>When it comes to putting comic heros on celluloid, Hollywood's track record has been pretty unimpressive. I never liked the recent Spiderman or Hulk series. And the original Batmans sucked. (Even with Jack playing the Joker.) Much of this has changed with the recent Batman film which I saw in the theatre, and Iron Man.<BR/><BR/>If you have not rented Iron Man, I recommend it. It has no explicit violence or sex, but remained very entertaining from beginning to end. Even Paltrow's portrayal of Penny Potts was pragmatic. (Yes, try saying that three times fast!!)
