Team America

This is one of the funniest DVD's I have ever rented. And it really isn't a classic yet, since it was released in 2005. But it has a somewhat cult following already.

First the disclaimer, "Team America" spoofs everything, leaving no political, sexual or personal niche safe. If you can handle this fact, then you most likely will find yourself laughing throughout the entire DVD. And the cast is entirely animated puppets. There are no humans in this film.

Team America is a special police force that fights international crime. They are headquartered inside Mount Rushmore, and each member has a certain talent in addition to the usual shooting and killing. After they lose one of their members during a mission in France, they recruit Gary Johnston, a famous Broadway actor. (He is the lead in the smash hit "Lease" if you know what I mean!) Gary gets patriotic and agrees to join. Our team sets out to save the world.

It is important to know that this masterpiece, and I say that sincerely, is the work of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the same guys that brought the animated Southpark series. So expect crude humor of all shades. But view the dark irony in this endeavor as a portrait of the absurd, for this film strikes eerily close to reality.

Oh and the best part? They are straight up celebrity bashers! But to add any more to this review would detract from the absolute fun you'll get from this rental.

P.S. This one is for the grown-ups
