It has become quite obvious to any rational human being that the world’s weather is changing. And these changes are not for the better. An Inconvenient Truth, the 2006 Academy Award winning documentary, specifically links increased carbon levels in the atmosphere with increases in global temperatures. This phenomenon is known commonly in the media as global warming, with many scientists linking the increased atmospheric carbon to modern human civilization.
Former Vice President Al Gore has been involved in this issue for decades. This film features rather surprising footage of him as a young man, testifying before Congress. Mr. Gore was a student of climate expert Roger Revelle while studying at Harvard. One of the most effective and personal cinematic devices employed in this film are these narratives. Director Davis Guggenheim softens the hard science with these reflective memories. They add power to the message and make Mr. Gore more appealing.
Which brings me to the most upsetting point of this review. Those that oppose the theory of global warming, and those that suggest this film is a vehicle for Mr. Gore’s future political ambitions, and those that refuse to give up any creature comforts based on the concept of Capitalism and hard work, would be completely justified in opposition to the message of this film. We are taught that hard work in the free world brings us wealth. A model Mr. Gore embraces each time he uses his private jet.
I'd like to see this. I voted for Gore back when he was robbed of his rightful for presidency by the schemeing Bush brother who just happened to be the govener of Florida. It really amazed me that people weren't more furious about that whole shady business. I used to have anti-Bush stickers on my car after that election and people gave me the finger for it. Well I hope they are happy now.
Sorry, I didn't mean to go on a rant. That subject always gets me het up. I also just watched the new Michael Moore documentry, "Sicko" which I really liked. You should review that one, GF.
I enjoyed watching this..I seen a while ago when it first come out.. But films like this really get to me..Causes depression hahahaaha Although I have to watch and learn.. Everyone should see this film and do their part!
Man! I lost my comment. Well, I was pretty much saying that while the facts in this movie scared the pants off me, it is unfortunate that too often public figures say one thing and do another.
I haven't seen this yet, but I have heard that Gore kind of gets in the way of the message. I do think more people and corporations are striving to combine capitalism and working green
Mish, tell me about it!! With all the recycling I've done over the past ten years, you would think The Messenger would at least fly commercial.
Or take the bus.
Diane, you're basically correct. But it still is a very good documentary. And despite my valid complaints, Mr. Al Gore is to be commended for bringing global climate change to the mainstram. (Please check it out and let me know what you think.)
I think that since Gore took the time to make the film..He would want to explain why he cares about the matter by adding his own personal experiences ...What ever..Either way the film is great and i commend him for making it. We would all pass out if we held our breath waiting for someone like Bush to make a film that mattered... I'm not going to get into that right now hahahhaha I have to post something now.
I haven't seen this one yet, but really want to. After your post I planned to rent and watch it so that when I wrote a comment I could tell you what I thought. But I just haven't had the time. I'm still going to try and see it.
I have tried watching this three times. And I get bored. Or perhaps it is the boo-hoo moments that put me off. They seemed out of place. Not that they needed to excluded. But seriously, are we supposed to feel bad for the earth or Al Gore?

Pru, I just can't bear Michael Moore. Even though he may raise important points in his films, he drives me nuts.
Amber, it's a tough message to deal with!!

I agree with you Amber on all your comments.
