Shades of Grey #2

Well, I was very happy when Meredith and Derek finally shagged full-circle last week, and became a couple. Why? Because the series was running out of good reasons not to pursue other ideas. And besides, I've finally accepted both characters, flaws and all, and I am ready to move on.

I do like the Derek character. He is motivated, but not extreme. Concerned, but not perfect. He's emotionally damaged, but big enough not to let it weaken his passion. And in the end people, it's always about the passion.

Well, at least that is what this weeks episode would tell us.

The Burke and Cristina secret had soiled us all. It was like having secret sex. It's a power trip. Two giant minds, combined to form a single ego. Perverse in the chance of getting caught, and understanding the risk to their careers, they both failed in one basic concept: the trust of the patient. It's the biggest failure a medical professional can amke. And far more selfish than any love affair thus portrayed.

It took George, and his dad's condition, to finally force the truth to the surface. But it was Miranda, and her dialogue with Derek, which really fortified my satisfaction with this series. And why it remains #1 in ratings. While practicing on test dummies, (LA I don't know what they call those things!) Derek suddenly stops and expresses his concern about the risks associated with adult conjoined twins separation. Miranda, who has attempted to read Burke the riot act earlier, sees that Derek's hesitation is simply a manifesting of his failure to resolve Burke's problem. After all, Burke has made it no secret that he thinks Derek failed him.

She simply explains how Burke and his ego failed, and that he, of all people should have followed a basic procedure, one that would have involved follow-up visits, which would have revealed his "twitchy" 2-million dollar hand.

I really need to start watching this show. I've seen stuff about it everywhere recently. Is it out on DVD yet?

Flix - "Test dummy" is as good as anything. I don't know if they have a name.

Terrible lie - Catch the episodes for free on ABC.COM. They are definitely worth watching!

Pru - Seasons #1 and #2 are both out on DVD.

I read a lot of Grey's Anatomy forums. A lot of people are weighing in on whether Cristina was in the wrong or whether Burke was in the wrong. I think these people are missing the point. That is to say, the reason this show is so compelling is because they (Cristina and Burke) were both wrong (and both right). It was interesting to me that Burke brought Cristina's "emotional short-comings" into the argument, suggesting that he was going along with their secret as a means of enabling her inadequacies.

George's dad is great. I love him. Too bad he's so sick. Stage III metastatic esophageal cancer is a bad diagnosis. Hopefully, they give him a remission and let him stay a character on the show. I like they way they've brought him on to help George mature.

But I totally love that Alex and Izzy have truly become friends. And I can't WAIT for the Alex and Addison relationship to begin!

I was honestly concerned that this show had jumped the shark with the prom at the season finale last year. It definitely was ramping up, but the writers and producers have managed to rein it in. It's still a great show.

Has anyone else noticed that the voice-over narratives have changed a bit this season? This past show didn't have a narrative in the beginning. One show had a Cristina narrative, and one show ended with Denny's answering machine message as the ending voiceover. I'm very glad because I'm sick of Ellen Pompeo's weak voice and the lisp in her abysmal diction.

Hey, thanks La!! Will do so.

LA: Exactly. I was worried that GA was going down the Desperate Housewives route, but they did manage to save it.

I still don't like Merideth and McDreamy together. They blew it and now it's not the same and it's not better.

After enduring a I love him/I hate him period with Alex, I've officially decided that I love him. He would have amazing chemistry with Addison and I am very happy that she's sticking around.

I hope that George is able to man-up and get back with Callie. His character has changed dramatically for the better since they've been together. No more crying that he loves Merideth. Which I didn't buy anyway. He's so much better with Callie.

I will say, that the worst decision was to move the show to Thursday nights. My Thursdays are so busy, whereas my Sunday at 10:00pm spot is filled by Studio 60. A show I would have never started watching if Grey's had stayed put.

Flix: "Shagged full circle"? I love it!

LA - Please tell me that you are rethinking your position on George. I have loved the past few episodes due to the fact that the writers are elaborating and building on the foundation of George's character. He remains my McSteamy!

Oh and I have to agree with the new voice over openings! I am happy that they have decided to ditch Ms. Whiney for every opening this season. It really has breathed new life into the show.

Ryan - I like George better with a backbone, yes, but I still don't find him the least bit attractive. Sorry. In part, it's those manscaped brows.

Still on George, I hope that the writers find a happy medium for him. He doesn't wear the out-of-control rage well. But I'm still glad he's taken the bull by the horns in directing his dad's medical care (and I love it when he tells his brothers to get stuffed.)

Mish - Alex has been my fave since day one.

Alex is perhaps the deepest, amd maybe most honest character on the show. (LA is on the money.) You always hate the friend that tells you your lover is cheating. But he's still a friend.

And why Kitty and Diane aren't watching is beyond me!! Ladies, it's the #1 show on television.

I'm addicted to Grey's. I agree with you on the Burke/Christina thing. They really should not have done what they did, and upon being caught, Burke had no right to blame Derek for all of his problems.

LA, why am I not surprised? Really now. ABC can't give us a Grey's Holiday episode? What's up with that?!!

I thinking what you're thinking, thinker!!
