TV Time-Out: #5
"How I Met Your Mother" is a what I consider an honest attempt by CBS to cross-pollinate age demographics. And they darn well almost pull it off. The premise is simple, yet effective. P.O.V. father speaking to son & daughter about his past adventures leading up to his eventual goal: winning mommy's heart. That's the quick set-up, with the kids maybe asking a quick question, or making a comment, and it's flashback to 2006. It's here we get a real-time account of the father's story.
Cute and honest.
I really love this show. It has a broad range of appeal for many generations, as many of us have hooked-up in major urban areas. It does not smell of "Friends" which I have always found empty and crass. And the characters do fall in and out of bed with each other, so it's not lame in that sense.
It's not often you get a comedy that deals effectively with that troublesome period of life where the partying is coming to an end, and a soul is ready to settle-down and marry. "How I Met Your Mother" fills that gap.

i agree, the writing is witty and the story line is intriguing. the only problem i have is the premise of finding out who "mom" is. if the show gets cancelled, will the writers jump the shark by trying to devise a plot line/ratings sweep to satiate their followers? what would you do if mom winded up being jlove hewitt, lacy chabert, rebecca romijn or heaven forbid, britney spears? it could happen, ya know.
So they never show the mom?
Flix, I am resisting letting you seduce me into another television show. My Grey's addiction is out of control!
I do like this show, but up here in the North, they keep screwing around with its timeslot and I can never find it. Boo... But yes, it is a funny show.
Awwww, kitty. I am hoping for a happy ending.
LA, this show is less important than G.A. It's something you watch for a light laugh after a shitty Monday.
Mish, they've been messing with the timeslots down here, too. It's like twenty ways to milk a cow.
getflix, tell me what your idea of a happy ending would be. that came out wrong, but i think you know what i mean.
I have to admit that I secretly love this show too. why am I so afraid to admit that?
Kitty, I am still hoping he ends-up with the one he's been chasing.
Pope-rah, it's too goofy and funny for most to admit to enjoying. Everything has to be so darn edgy these days, before it can be popular.
Have you ever seen The Running Man?
Ya ... Everyday we get closer and closer to that reality... Read the book, it's a thousand times better then the movie...
awww. i finally watched an episode last week, getflix. it sorta grew on me. watch it get cancelled now. that always happens.
Terrible Lie, you're back!!
PrettyK, the season finale is on tonight!!
