Breakfast At Tiffany's

The satirized social scene of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" provides comic relief to the dark undercurrent of the lead character Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) in this enjoyable film from the early 1960's. Set in Manhattan, Director Blake Edwards comic brilliance sets the off-beat, the off-hand, and the offensive, (Rooney's portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi) in frantic interplay around queen bee Holly.

The consenting socialite, Hepburn was in fine form with her portrayal of a young woman too scared to slow down and too proud to face her demons. Instead she jumps from scene to scene, savoring every delightful experience, pausing ever so rarely to adjust her hat or don her sunglasses. And then it is off to the next adventure.

Her would be suitor, Paul Varjak, or "Fred" as she calls him, is effectively played by George Peppard. While attracted by Holly, he is not enchanted. He correctly suspects Holly can't keep up the pace of her lifestyle, and this bee will eventually fall from exhaustion into his arms.

I've seen this film several times and find it quite entertaining and funny. The strange thing is, I don't even think they could make a film like this today. Society wouldn't allow it. But fortunately, we still have the original and it is as good as the day it premiered.

You know I've never seen this film! I LOVE a Roman Holiday, though.

LA, was it around in the early 1960s, because that would be really funny. Capote wrote the original novel.

Ms. Idle, I plan on renting Roman Holiday!!

This is one of my favorite movies....I was fascinated by her Ms. Hepburn's portrayal of Holly Golightly, who was in my mind a woman who was searching for something or somewhere where she 'belonged' and yet it was as if she could never seem to find it...Audrey's gracefulness and beauty were in my mind perfect attributes to be chosen for this role, that and the fact that whe was such a top-notch actress.....The short novel by Capote was wonderful, I recommend IT!!..Thanks for the review Flix, I will have to watch my DVD it this weekend!

I love this movie, but Tiffany's doesn't engrave anything you bring to them. In fact, those cheap fvckwads charge to polish the jewelry you bought there! I always felt lied to by that line...

Jane, I really want to read the novel.

Ffleur, the seediness that Holly subjects herself to as part of her lifestyle support, really stands in stark contrast to what we hold as normal. It's almost better we don't know what she does to earn her cash!!

Kat, I hear ya!! If life could only be like the movies! Or at least the ones we like!!

Ahhhhh, thanks Ffleur, but you don't have to do that. My dad's a bibliophile, and he has a couple of copies. I can snag one of his.

That is still super sweet of you!!
