Television Time-Out #2

Yes I admit I watched some of the first season of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" TV series. It was dark and had some twisted moments. But it's appeal has faded fast and frankly, it now irritates me. But if not for DH, I would have never fallen for the brilliant "Grey's Anatomy." (Yes I said brilliant. When the networks get it right, and stick with it, they get a big gold stamp of approval from GetFlix.) I was lucky to catch the premier episode last year, right after DH.

GA is a comedy/drama that follows the complicated relationships of five surgical interns and their supervising doctors. The title is a play on words, as most medical professionals have come across the famous anatomy book titled: "Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body." (The central character is intern Dr. Meredith Grey.)

The cast is fab. Well matched and totally believable. (Sandra Oh won an emmy for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang.) The writing is outstanding. The music hip. And it airs Sunday night at 10pm. What more could you ask for?

I fought off watching this for almost a year then got sucked in unwittingly. I'm hooked now.

I hear ya! Resistance is futile.

I've never seen it. I know I would love it, too, since it's about medicine. I just never watch television, I always forget to turn it on!

I'll give it a shot, but I have to say I don't think it could be better than 'House', could it?

LA, if you don't have a TV habit, don't start!!

Joy, give it a shot. It is different from DH.

I love House, that's my favorite show. Well, and Boston Legal. I have watched this show a few times, it isn't bad. It's just that the lead actress bothers me for some reason. Perhaps I only watch it so that I can see Patrick Dempsey :)

Those were two of my favorite shows last year, NV. It seems BL is off this year. I dunno.

But I would agree that the Meredith Grey character is the weakest on the show. Sandra Oh is great, though.

I ADORE this show! Watched it from the very beginning. I've never seen one episode of DH - its just never appealed.

There is a rumour one of the interns is leaving. I'm guessing it will be Alex Karev

Violet, as long as it isn't Sandra or that super hot blonde! (Alex is one of the guys, right?)

I totally agree. This is a fantastic show! I just hope that Ellen Pompeo (Meredith) stops losing so much weight. Its not a great look for her.

P.S. I love love love George!

Ffleur, the Alex character is actually kinda cool.

Mish, I know! She does look too skinny. George is such an awesome character!

This show rules my face. I, like you, was snagged into the premiere via DH and now that DH sucks monkey butts I am glad to have discovered this gem!!

Hell yeah! GA is best ever!
LA and joyd must definitely watch. By the way, in Mexico we have it after DH as well...Well, my sister and I just love the show. She was reluctant at first but it just took the first 15 minutes of a chapter to convince her. In here we're watching the 2nd season, so good, I adore it, we even prepare food so that we can eat it while we watch...mmmmh nice...I guess it really tops itself every week doesn't it? So that every week is the best chapter ever.
I adore Izzie, so gorgeous!!!!
By the way, I would have never known about the Gray's Anatomy book, interesting...

In one hour, I am going to watch this show for the first time. Of course, I'll be critiquing it in terms of 1) entertainment, and 2) medical accuracy.

so, what about LA commenting on this? I wanna know if it's medically accurate...

Hi Jesus! I enjoyed the episode I saw very much. I wish I knew a little more background on the characters, but that will come, I suppose, if I watch it regularly.

Of course you have to subtract the drama that is built into television, but yes, the episode I saw was medically sound. No bizarre doses for medication, medications matched the illnesses, diagnostic tests matched the illnesses, symptoms matched the diseases, etc.

I hope the trend for medical shows continues because I would love to be a medical consultant some day.

Flix - Question about the background story on this. I've seen two episodes now, and I don't understand why the characters are bitter at Addison Shephard instead of Derek Shephard or even Meredith Grey. Actually, I'm not finding Meredith to be that sympathetic, although I guess she didn't know he was married. She seems kind of selfish otherwise, though.

It seems weird to me that if a married man has an affair with an unmarried woman, the WIFE is the object of scorn? Seems like the scorn should be on him as he's the player and the one who broke his vows. Is there something in the story I don't know that would explain why Addison is considered "the bitch?" Thanks.

p.s. I like this show a lot. The Office, not as much, but I'll give it a couple more watches.

LA, Shepard caught his wife in bed with his best friend and was so freaked out, he left Boston? for Seattle. There he fell for intern Grey. He never told her he was married.

His wife followed him west and has convinced him to give the marriage another try. All the interns/staff know she cheated, so they don't trust her.

I actually like her character a little more than Dr. Grey. In fact Meredith Grey may be the weakest character on the show.

(I am glad you like it!)

Ahh, it makes MUCH more sense now!

And I agree with you... the Meredith Grey character is totally weak!

My faves are Dr. Bailey (the no-nonsense one), Dr. Webber (the older boss guy), Sandra Oh's character and the pretty blonde. Oh, I like Patrick Dempsey's character, too; even though he's a cad, he's HOT. LOL!

Thanks for the head's up on the show. I really did look forward to it last night.

Damn you, Flix! I'm so addicted to Grey's Anatomy that I went out and bought the entire first season!
